Mounika at CSS
Mounika lost both of her parents when she was a young child and was placed in an orphanage in India. Several years later, in 2017, the government closed the orphanage, leaving Mounika once again facing uncertainty about her future. As the children were relocated, the Women and Child Welfare Committee assigned Mounika to the Centre for Social Service (CSS) in Hyderabad, one of C2C’s partner organizations.
There, Mounika found a safe home and the opportunity to continue her education. With C2C’s support for her tuition and all room and board expenses, she enrolled in 2nd grade at the girls’ school. She quickly adapted to her new environment and, despite the many challenges she had experienced at such a young age, became an engaged student and active participant in school life.
For vulnerable girls like Mounika, educational success is often far from guaranteed. Frequent disruptions, financial hardship, trauma, and a lack of family support can make it difficult for children to remain in school, keep up academically, and reach their full potential. Creating an environment where girls can learn, grow, and envision a future for themselves requires more than paying school fees.
That is why C2C supports girls throughout their journey. In addition to their formal education, girls like Mounika have access to C2C programs in spoken English, Computer Science, Robotics, Vedic Math, and Life Skills. These programs are designed to give girls more than additional academic instruction. They help build the skills, confidence, and experience that can open doors to further education and, eventually, employment. For at-risk girls, that additional support can make an important difference.
Mounika has also seen the value of these programs. As she explains: “Because of the C2C initiative in our school, I gained basic knowledge in computers, Vedic Maths, Abacus and programming through the C2C-sponsored TechLab. This will be very useful for me even in my future education.”
Today, we are proud to share that Mounika has successfully completed her 10th Standard examinations, scoring 570 out of 600 marks and earning the top rank at her school.
Her next goal is to continue her studies in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, with the dream of becoming a doctor.
Mounika describes her aspirations, “From a young age, I have been deeply fascinated by human biology and clinical environments. I am fully committed to pursuing a career dedicated to patient care and clinical services.”
Mounika's achievement reflects years of hard work, perseverance, and determination. But completing 10th Standard is another important transition in her education, and C2C will continue to support her as she moves forward. For many girls, this is where the path becomes more uncertain: What should they study next? How will they prepare for college? What skills will they need to eventually find a job? For Mounika, C2C will continue to provide ongoing academic enrichment, counseling, and mentoring to help her navigate the next stages of her education and prepare for her future. As she gets closer to entering the workforce, this support will also include opportunities such as internships and career preparation.
For C2C, supporting girls means staying with them through these important transitions, not only helping them get an education, but also helping them develop the skills, confidence, and experience they need to turn that education into opportunity and build a future on their own terms.
